This position is located at the Natchez Trace Parkway in Tupelo, Mississippi, in the Resource Management Division. Please visit find a park

This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee is guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for the Natchez Trace Parkway is February through November, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. The current estimation for the work period is ten months.

This position is concurrently open under Announcement Number SE-1630-NATR-18-10160739-MP for those eligible under Merit Promotion procedures.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Processes environmental compliance, tracks special use (construction) and rights-of-way permits, and researches potentially complex land issues. Conducts basic field assessments. Performs complete administrative support for the Resource Management Division.Serves as initial point of contact for incoming requests for information. Maintains databases, tracks projects.

Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.

You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.

You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.

You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.

You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 10 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

A typing speed of 40 wpm minimum is required.


To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform successfully the duties of an Environmental Protection Assistant. Specialized experience includes: reviewing files and records and summarizing factual information in connection with environmental compliance; providing information on procedural requirements and formats for filing permits, compliance-related forms, etc.; collecting, tracking, computing, and summarizing statistical data in chart and narrative form.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.


There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level of this announcement.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary but physical demands include exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Heavy items such as equipment or supplies up to 50 pounds may be lifted or carried on an intermittent basis.

Working Conditions: Although work is primarily in an office environment, it requires some fieldwork. Exposure to the environmental elements of the southeastern United States will be required during field assessments and site inspections.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
