The Wichita VA Medical Center is recruiting for the position of Medical Support Assistant to work in the largest city in the state of Kansas. The purpose of this announcement is to fill Medical Support Assistant positions throughout the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita Kansas. Applicants may be assigned to any department with a vacancy. The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) will provide administrative services. The MSA will be responsible for scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines. The MSA may schedule, cancel, and/or re-schedule Veteran's appointments and/or consults; enter no-show information; monitor the electronic wait list; prepare for clinic visits; monitor both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensure encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; verify and update demographics and insurance information; process all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; perform basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage. The MSA must provide excellent customer service and must adhere to VA local, National and Service policies and procedures.

Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or

Education. One year above high school; or

Combination of Experience and Education. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.

Grade Determinations:

GS-3 MSA (Entry Level)

Experience or Education: None beyond the basic requirements.

GS-4 MSA (Developmental Level)

Experience or Education: One year of experience in clerical or office work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position or two years above high school.

GS-5 MSA (Full Performance Level)

Experience or Education: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) or 4 years of education above high school.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-5. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-3 to GS-5.

Physical Requirements: Most of the work is sedentary and involves data entry into a computer. Must be able to communicate with the veteran patient, their family, and staff. May involve carrying light loads such as paper files.
