Supervisory General Engineer for the Phoenix Area Youth Regional Treatment Center, Nevada Skies in Wadsworth, Nevada. Position will be responsible for the proper and efficient operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment for the service unit and will report to the Chief Operations Officer on site.

The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3. Responsible for the operation, maintenance, design, construction, and modification of buildings, utilities, grounds and attendant systems and equipment.

Provide program oversight to Facility Operations and Maintenance, Quarters, Housekeeping, Safety and Security.

Serves as technical advisor to the Service Unit on facility engineering including preventive maintenance, biomedical equipment, and health care accreditation requirements.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. A) Education: Successful completion of a Bachelor's or higher graduate degree in an engineering field; OR

B) Combination: A combination of education and experience that provided the abilities required to perform engineering work. The adequacy of such a background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

Professional Registration, or

Engineer-in-Training, or

Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours in courses related to an engineering major, or

Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in any related field plus 1 year of engineering experience.

2. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE GS-11 LEVEL: You may be considered for this grade level if you meet one of the following:

1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level that included researching and applying engineering principles and practices to solve practical engineering problems related to facility management operations; identifying deficiencies in engineering operations to make recommendations for performance improvements; knowledge of accreditation requirements for Environment of Care; use a computerized maintenance management system; performing supervisory functions to include managing work loads of subordinates and resolving disciplinary problems; and providing technical written and oral guidance and instruction on facility management operations. Preferred credential of a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager; OR

3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with major study in engineering; OR

A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above. 1 year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months or 2080 work hours. 3 years of graduate education is equivalent to 54 semester hours.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).


Additional information

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned.

This position meets the criteria specified in pillar number one of the five pillars of the PHS Commissioned Corps.
