Responsibilities

The Nurse Manager is a professional nurse with responsibility for managing the Nursing Education and Informatics and service for the San Francisco VAMC. This is a front-line administrative position, functioning under the direction and guidance of the Chief Nurse for Education and Informatics. This manager plays an integral part in the planning, developing, directing and evaluating the overall Education and Informatics workforce development program for Nursing Service.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Supervising all nursing personnel in the Education/Informatics staff

Oversight of staff education and competency programs and trainings

Oversight of student clinical rotations, scholarships, health information systems and employee career development

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 0800-1630. Additional hours may be necessary, as this manager has 24/7 responsibility for program success

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing, frequent bending and stooping, walking, reaching and repetitive motion. heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); heavy carrying (45 lbs. and over); straight pulling (up to 1 hour); pushing (1-2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 3 hours) standing (up to 3 hours); repeated bending (up to 1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13 to 16; hearing (aid permitted). The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environments' pace can vary from steady to critical, requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a some-times noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.

Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their role.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Proficient in written and spoken English

Graduate of a school of professional nursing that was approved by the appropriate state agency, AND accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) http://www.nnac.org) or the commission on collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE; http://www.aacn.nche.edu) at the time you completed the program. If you are a foreign graduate, you must have a current, full, active and unrestricted U.S. registration.

Possess current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a professional nurse in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States

Preferred Experience:

Masters degree in Nursing Education or Informatics or related field

4-5 years progressive nursing administration

2-3 administrative experience
