The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is recruiting for a part-time (16 hours per week) Housekeeping Aide to serve as members of the Environmental Management Service (EMS). The Housekeeping Aide position performs a full range of cleaning and sanitation work through-out the hospital. The Housekeeping Aide Foreman schedules assignments and spot checks work for compliance with quality and performance standards.

Responsibilities
The Housekeeping Aide positions will be located within the Environmental Management Service, Sanitation Operations, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a Housekeeping Aide you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties.
Duties include but may not be limited to:
Wall washing, interior and exterior window cleaning.
Cleaning occupied patient room , discharged patient room cleaning, patient isolation room cleaning.
Floor care (dust mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming).
Cleaning fans, blinds, shades, screens, mirrors, doors, and partitions.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, tubs, elevators, stairwells, entrances, lobbies, porches, and hallways.
Dust furnishings, administrative and non-housekeeping areas, emptying waste and recycling receptacles.
Assists in assembling and furniture and/or moving furniture, supplies and equipment.
Using and caring for industrial type powered vacuum cleaners, floor machines, carpet extractors, and other powered cleaning equipment.
Housekeeping Aide carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
Work schedule:
Weekends Saturday -Sunday 07:00 am - 3:30 am

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 5 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to do the job of a Housekeeping Aide without more than normal supervision.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note
: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Housekeeping Aid must be in good physical condition as the job requires continuous body and arm movement, walking, standing, twisting, bending and pushing. The Housekeeping Aid must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, be able to work from a ladder, and be able to push loaded carts through hallways and on/off elevators.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Dust; solvents (degreasing agents); grease and oils; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; working around machinery with moving parts; working on ladders or scaffolding; working with hands in water; working closely with others.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation's. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave:** Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
