DoDEA provides education to eligible DoD military and civilian dependents from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Worker at the WG-4749-5 some of your typical work assignments may include:

As a Maintenance Worker, performs a variety of tasks common and typical to the various trades which are basic and routine to the occupation, working with and under the instruction of the higher graded maintenance workers.

Typical assignments involves carrying tools, equipment and other materials to the work site.

Providing assistance in the holding, rearranging, moving or otherwise positioning equipment for ease of access.

Preparing sites or areas for equipment installation; and performing the simpler operations of the trade.

Incident to the performance of these duties drives light vehicles such as sedans and pickup trucks for the purpose of obtaining tools and materials, moving equipment, or for similar related purposes.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

Moderate physical activity is required in intermittent lifting and carrying of repair materials and tiring working positions are encountered. The work requires considerable standing and walking. Work requires climbing, stooping, and working in cramped places.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Tasks are performed inside and outside. Hands become soiled by contact with tools, materials and equipment. Gloves and safety goggles are worn occasionally when using power tools. Unpleasant odors are encountered occasionally. Inside work areas are sometimes damp and drafty or subject to inadequate ventilation. Incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises during repair operations. There is danger of injury from falls from ladders or roofs.

Incumbent must be able to operate a government vehicle within 45 days of date of hire.

Work may include assignment to first or second shift.

Call back and emergency overtime may be required of this position.

Qualifications

Per OPM Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, the applicant's experience, education and training must show enough knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position. Under this system, how applicants gained their skill and knowledge or the length of time they have spent in a line of work are not as important as the fact that they have the required ability or potential to do the job.

This job has one critical element, called the screen-out element (SOE). Applicants who clearly fail to meet the lowest acceptable requirements in the SOE will be rated ineligible without further review of their application.

Additionally applicants who do not receive an average factor value of at least 2 points for all job elements will be eliminated from further competition.

Examples of qualifying experience include:

Perform routine work of maintenance and repair to facilities such as playgrounds, classrooms, restroom facilities, office areas and mechanical equipment.

Use of a variety of common hand and power tools and equipment.

Follow specific instructions and established work procedures and practices of the trade or craft involved to perform more routine and repetitive assignments.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
