Summary

Provide leadership, nursing-related consultation and technical assistance regarding infection prevention in healthcare settings (e.g. acute care, long term care, dialysis, outpatient). Serve as a subject matter expert for extramural infection prevention-related inquiries that may be part of any consultation and response activity.

Serve as technical advisor and infection prevention and control expert for development, piloting and implementation of infection prevention tools for use in various healthcare settings

Use expert nursing experience to advise on design, formatting and usability issues for various infection prevention tools.

Lead and development of tools and supporting technical material.

Serve as Project officer for relevant funded projects, and provides technical assistance, including performing site visits, as necessary

Lead effort to use NHSN data for Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) measurement and planning of resulting infection prevention activities.

Use interpersonal and clinical skills to develop, coordinate, and respond to inquiries and/or requests from healthcare providers and other stakeholders.

Travel Required

25% or less - 5-10 % Domestic travel may be expected for this position.

Basic Qualifications:

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time completed the program.

Additional Basic Qualification:

Registration - possess an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. NOTE: An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within six (6) months of appointment. A person appointed pending registration may not be retained beyond six (6) months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience providing leadership, nursing-related consultation and technical assistance regarding infection prevention in healthcare settings (e.g. acute care, long term care, dialysis, outpatient).

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
