This National Guard position is for a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT, Position Description Number NGD1962000and is part of 114 LGR SQ. This is a Title 32, Dual-Status position.


The South Dakota National Guard has two distinct missions. The State mission is to provide units to assist and support civil authorities in the protection of life and property, preserve peace, order and public safety under the direction of the governor. The Federal mission is to provide combat ready, mission-capable forces throughout the entire spectrum of conflict under the direction of the president.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

This position is located in the Distribution Section of the Deployment and Distribution Flight, Logistics Readiness Squadron, Mission Support Group, at an ANG Aviation Wing. The purpose of this position is to serve as a distribution assistant, which provides technical expertise and support relating to the movement of equipment, supplies, and personnel for both peacetime and wartime.

Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:Selected individual must be assigned to a compatible military position (E1 to E7) in the following AFSC upon date of hire: AFSC 2F0X1, 2T0X1, 2T1X1, 2T3X0. The AFSC(s) require an aptitude of A35 and a physical profile of J333223. Aptitude scores can be checked on the vMPF or at the Customer Service in the Force Support Squadron and physical profile in the medical squadron. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training interpreting, explaining, and/or applying basic rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of a transportation program. Experience using computer and automation systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 9 months experience, education, or training involving verifying legal entitlements or official authorizations for travel, securing from carriers guides and timetables, information regarding schedules, fares, and availability of space accommodations.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a separate sheet(s) addressing the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) and how they relate to work experience, education or training. This document will be used to determine the PAY GRADE to which an applicant may qualify.

- Knowledge of legal entitlements or official authorizations for travel.

- Skill in interpreting, explaining, and/or applying basic rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of a transportation program.
