About the Position:
This position is with the United States Army Medical Command, Weed Army Community Hospital (WACH) at Fort Irwin, California. Fort Irwin is a world class training center for America's Soldiers, known for its excellent desert training and vast recreational opportunities. The employee serves as supervisor of the Information Management Division, Customer Support Branch, providing guidance and coordination to the Technical Support/Help Desk Information Technology Specialists who are responsible for providing hardware and software technical support, video teleconferencing, audio/visual, publications, reproduction, and mail support to the command and Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) health clinic staff.

Supervise personnel responsible for providing help desk, customer support to employees/IT users within the health clinics.
Responsible for assisting staff to resolve more complex customer trouble tickets and calls for assistance in areas such as hardware, software (computer application malfunctions or software failure), network configuration, video teleconferencing, video graphic displays, and/or video cards, when staff is unable to reach resolution.
Serve as technical expert responsible for providing guidance, sets policy, and oversight to information technology specialists assigned to the organization.
Responsible for the daily supervision and management of help desk personnel.
Occasional travel - Temporary Duty away from the office is occasional at 5% to attend meetings, conduct testing.

The position requires satisfactory completion of required certification IAW DoD Publication 8570-01-M Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program, dated 12-19-2005 (incorporating Change 1, 15 May 2008) or most current publication.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience to diagnose and resolve problems in response to customer reported incidents for those who need advice, assistance, and/or training with hardware or software systems i.e. troubleshoot problems with personal computers, laptops, system uploads, updates to network configuration, etc.; maintaining connectivity for employees); and update and close out of help desk tickets. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

With the overseas contingency operations continuing, the spotlight justifiably is on the Army’s medics, evacuation units, surgical teams and field hospitals. Army Medicine is a seamless chain of care stretching back to fixed hospitals in Europe and the United States, where Soldiers receive state-of-the-art care. Field medical units are under the command of the combatant Commanders, because their movements and work must be coordinated with those of fighting forces. In contrast, all fixed hospitals (in the U.S. and outside the U.S.)are commanded by the MEDCOM. The challenges for Army Medicine are (1) How to provide medical leadership for field units while respecting combatant Commander’s "ownership" and (2) How to integrate the work of field and fixed units.
