Responsibilities

1. Incumbent accurately posts and codes time and attendance reports via computer program for all Primary/Specialty Care Service Line, Nursing employees for each day's tour of duty for each bi-weekly pay period to include updating tours of duty assignment changes and overtime/compensatory time earned.

2. Incumbent is responsible for entering all staffing changes, in the Staff Records/Employee Assignments computer program.

3. Incumbent provides OI&T staff with all new employee, resident and student information regarding computer options, changes or termination via computer system; this is to include a quarterly report.

4. Processes, prepares and maintains all approved leave requests and follows up when indicated; i.e., authorized absence, military leave, leave without pay, court leave, annual leave, sick leave, compensatory time.

5. Maintains the files on tours of duty, bi-weekly schedules, military leave, and court leave for leave taken; requests physician's statements when necessary.

6. Prepares clearance forms and follows through to ensure understanding of resigning personnel on process and expectations.

7. Administratively clears employees who are unable to come in to clear themselves. S/he is responsible for contacting employees who have not cleared the medical center for completion of this action.

Qualifications

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

Applicants must be able to type 40 wpm in order to be considered qualified. This must be indicated in your resume or application packet.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-4) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: posts and codes time and attendance reports; enter all staffing changes in the computer program; processes, prepares and maintains all approved leave requests and follows up when indicated; i.e., authorized absence, military leave, leave without pay, court leave, annual leave, sick leave, compensatory time; maintains the files on tours of duty, bi-weekly schedules, etc.; prepares clearance forms and follows through to ensure understanding of resigning personnel on process and expectations; administratively clears employees who are unable to come in to clear themselves.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-5 level. To qualify based on education, you must have 4 years of education above high school.

OR

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-5 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-5. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e., 50 % of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e., 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Additional information

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
