Dole VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Wichita, Kansas is recruiting for a Licensed Practical Nurse to work in the Emergency Department. The Robert J. Duties Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 1300-2130 (Varied) - The Licensed Practical Nurse possesses knowledge and skills to perform a practical nurse assessment \Assessment\ means the act of gathering and identifying data about the client, procedures, practices, and techniques at a level determined by the Qualification Standards and demonstrated competency. - This position requires maintenance of BLS and ACLS certification. - Provides direct nursing care to patients\/residents in a variety of health care settings. - Demonstrates knowledge to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and\/or behavioral problems. - Demonstrates ability to serve as a responsible member of the health care team and interact with patients, significant others and co-workers. - Documents care provided, observations, and responses on the electronic medical record, tools and\/or forms as appropriate. - Observes and reports changes in patient's\/resident's condition, (e.g. behavior shifts, mood changes, skin coloring, appetite, etc.). - Assures receipt of adequate nutritional intake through observation, feeding, or properly positioning and checking placement of feeding tube for the patient\/resident. - Administers medications, stoma care (e.g. tracheotomy, suctioning, and colostomy), enemas, skin care, simple dressings, braces and prosthetic devices. Monitors intake and output, according to established policy and procedure. - Recognizes the patient's\/resident's autonomy independence by means of respect, limits setting, and individualized treatment. - Provides effective education to patients\/residents in relations to common disease processes, medications, and\/or prescribed treatment regimes. - Integrate and apply aspects of the Joint Commission s National Patient Safety Goals as applicable to their area of practice. - Maintains confidentiality of written, electronic, and verbal patient\/employee information. - Integrates and applies pertinent aspects of the Outpatient Clinic performance improvement program into his\/her professional practice when appropriate.
