Summary The Atlanta VA Medical Center is recruiting for a full-time Nurse Practitioner in Medical Specialty, Infectious Disease. The selectee will be responsible for the care and administrative needs of both inpatient and outpatient Veterans and provides care and treatment and services for patients diagnosed with HIV and Hepatitis C Virus. The role includes use of evidence based implementation of health policy, leadership, education, case management and consultation. The practice further includes independent and interdependent decision making and direct accountability for clinical judgment while concurrently consulting with physicians in the Infectious Disease Department. This includes clinical, research, and education departments. THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES; NURSE PRACTITIONER & PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT. Recruitment Incentive not Authorized. Duties Incumbent will be responsible for their own panel of patients with Hepatitis C infection. In preparation for regular clinics, the incumbent will review laboratory results, results of diagnostic procedures and consults. The incumbent will review the Hepatitis C Treatment Candidates dashboard maintained by VISN7\/Pharmacy Benefit Manager to identify veterans with untreated chronic hepatitis C infection. The incumbent will also have their own panel of patients with HIV infection and will perform Infectious Disease care in addition to routine health maintenance and chronic disease care. Incumbent is responsible for patient triage for patients dropping into the clinic, screening and evaluating patient phone calls and resolving medication refill requests. The incumbent will help coordinate appointments, order appropriate laboratory tests and radiological studies. The incumbent will administer medications and vaccinations as necessary and indicated. The incumbent will perform patient education, coordinate consults and follow-up, and facilitate admissions for the clinics. She\/he will provide medical education\/counseling of patients and their families. The incumbent will be responsible for educating patients and families about HIV and Hepatitis C disease, medications, and the importance of adherence to medication regimens. The incumbent will also emphasize the importance of reducing alcohol and substance abuse, practicing safe sexual practices and following a healthy life style. In the area of research, the incumbent will help screen patients for research protocols, and refer them to the research coordinators.
