As a Summer Intern at GSA, you will work directly under the general supervision of an assigned Supervisor/Manager, with day-to-day training, direction and guidance provided by the supervisor, journey level employees and/or assigned coaches. You will be oriented in the overall operations of OCIO.

Location of Position: This position is located in GSA's Office Information Technology (IT), in San Francisco, CA and Fort Worth, TX.

This position is being announced under the Pathways Student Internship Program. As an Student Trainee (Information Technology), you will perform the following duties:

Works closely with supervisor or senior staff on basic Information Technology (IT) tasks.

Works closely with supervisor or senior staff in reviewing and evaluating the products and equipment.

Works closely with supervisor or senior staff in assisting other specialists in: providing general and/or limited technical IT advice and guidance to customers.

If selected, you must meet the following conditions:

Provide a copy of up-to-date transcripts (unofficial), for verification of enrollment and academic standing as proof of continuing eligibility for participation in the Intern Program.

Sign an agreement between GSA, the student and educational institution that will identify agreed-upon schedule of school and work to ensure work responsibilities do not interfere with academic performance.

Serves on a probationary/trial period for the entire duration of the internship appointment.

Undergo a background investigation and receive a favorable adjudication.

Complete a Declaration of Federal Employment (OF-306) to determine suitability for Federal employment.

Non-GSA employees must complete the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 to determine identity and employment (work status) eligibility. GSA will verify the information through the DHS e-Verify automated system. Any identified discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of continued employment.

The GS-03 salary range starts at $28,438 per year.

The GS-04 salary range starts at $31,925 per year.

The GS-05 salary range starts at $35,718 per year.

You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by February 23, 2018. To qualify, you must demonstrate the following:

At the GS-03: Completion of at least one full academic year of post-high school study. NOTE: One full academic year of undergraduate education is defined as the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study.

At the GS-04: Completion of at least two full academic years of post-high school study. NOTE: One full academic year of undergraduate education is defined as the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. OR have completed an associate's degree.

At the GS-05: Completion of at least four full academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. NOTE: One full academic year of undergraduate education is defined as the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. OR have completed a bachelor's or equivalent degree.


Qualifying educational institutions/programs for Pathways include: a high school/GED whose curriculum has been approved by a state or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum; and any accredited technical or vocational school, 2- or 4-year college or university, a graduate or professional school, or a post-secondary home-school curriculum.

Applicants may refer to the U.S. Department of Education’s Institutional Accreditation System to determine whether their school/program is accredited:

A post-secondary certificate program must have been completed at a qualifying educational institution equivalent to at least 1 academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.

Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional/accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment. If you received a degree abroad, contact the agency to which you are applying for guidance regarding having your degree reviewed by a U.S.-based credential evaluation service.
