Summary

There are two (2) positions located in the Maintenance and Operations Section, Facilities Management Service at VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) in Denver, CO. The incumbent works in the Preventative Maintenance Shop under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor. He/she is responsible for performing a variety of tasks involved in the testing, preventative maintenance, and minor repair of building service equipment, structures and utility systems.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 07:30 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

Perform mechanical cleaning of boiler tubes, sanitation, cleaning and filter replacement duties on fan coils, ceiling diffusers, light lenses and air handling units as well as stem trap maintenance

Perform fire damper testing, emergency light testing and exit light testing, exercising valves and testing of eye wash and emergency showers for the Operations Section

Complete maintenance work required for the Legionella Prevention program efforts conducting water outlet flushing, temperature monitoring, pH testing, and chlorine residuals

Make simple repairs to battery powered exit lights replacing bulbs and batteries andfan coils performing simple 110 volt

Clean and replace HVAC grills/outlets/fan coil air conditioner filters and air handlers

Perform first echelon preventive maintenance and grease and oil powered equipment

Perform basic carpentry work by applying standard measurements, specifications, and instructions

Locate broken, worn, damaged, poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through visual checks or use of small variety of test equipment

Perform pluming work that involves removing, cleaning, replacing and sealing defective parts such as steam chill water valves and controller

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee must use, move, carry and set up ladders and work from ladders and uses HEPA Vacuums and other cleaning devices. He/she frequently lifts objects weighing over 40 pounds and occasionally lifts objects over 50 pounds. Duties include work that requires physical abilities and effort in doing laboring duties that require some training or experience. The employee performs manual tasks with some degree of skill. The work involves some heavy physical effort as in snow shoveling. The employee must utilize and maintain Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE).

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
