Summary

This position is located in the Decennial Logistics Branch (DLB), National Processing Center (NPC). The function of the branch is to provide a variety of services including: warehousing, transportation, shipping and receiving, fork-lifting, laboring, supplying, controlling forms and expendables, and property management in support of Decennial Census activities

Responsibilities

The individual selected for this position will:

Implement, maintain, and periodically adjust the database management system (Oracle) for the control of all major census forms, supplies and materials which are received, stored, processed and/or shipped by the Division.

Develop and implement local procedures and guidelines to achieve and maintain an efficient and coordinated flow of required information.

Initiate procurement requests using the Comprizon and Small Order Purchase Systems for many of the major census materials.

Take appropriate action to resolve discrepancies.

Work directly with computer programmers to assist in developing and updating the computer programs for stock record control of major census forms, current survey forms, expendable material, and for many related records and reports; Work with programmers in Washington and NPC to resolve operating problems.

Work closely with warehouse supervision and the inventory control unit supervision providing important information regarding forms status.

Initiate, post, and reconcile inventories to ensure the accuracy of stock record balances and that stock levels are properly maintained.

Possibly act as a work leader for and provides technical support to lower graded (GS/GG-5) technicians or clerical employees in the accomplishment of the major census control activity, current survey activity, and expendable material activity.

Qualifications

Minimum qualification requirements: Applicants MUST have a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute with 3 or fewer errors based on a five minute sample and the experience or education as listed below or a combination of both experience and education beyond high school. Applicants may meet the typing requirement by answering Yes to the typing ability question in the online job assessment questionnaire.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants qualify at the Grade 07 level if they possess one year of specialized experience that equips them with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the grade 06 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal Service. Examples include establishing controls, procedures and instructions for reports and record keeping; posting issues, receipts, inventories, and other data into a system database; establishing and maintaining a computerized stock record; conducting extensive research; reviewing requisitions and reference material; initiating supply requisitions.

Education cannot be substituted at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
