The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), through its Community

DoDEA is a major Department of Defense (DoD) Field Activity with worldwide

scope. DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages the education programs

for DoD dependents. DoDEA consists of three regions, DoDEA Americas, DoDEA

Europe, and DoDEA Pacific and a total of eight school districts located

overseas and in the U.S. and its territories. DoDEA provides education to

eligible DoD military and civilian dependents from prekindergarten through

grade 12.

Responsibilities

As a Custodial Worker you will be responsible for the following duties:

- Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using brooms, mops, industrial-type floor scrubbers and other heavy powered cleaning equipment.

- Adjusts, changes and performs minor maintenance on buffers, brushes and other attachments on power equipment.

- Dusts, waxes and polishes office furniture, table tops, desks, chairs, lighting fixtures, windows, window ledges and woodwork.

- Maintains restrooms in clean and sanitary condition. Cleans and disinfects lavatories, urinals, toilet bowls, sinks, etc.

- Cleans and maintains walls, carpets and ceiling surfaces. Removes stains from a variety of surfaces.

- Occasionally works on ladders/scaffolds to clean and/or replace ceiling fixtures, walls, replace light bulbs and other similar tasks.

- Works outside for general maintenance activities, (picking up debris, minimal landscaping, cleaning outsides of windows). As required provides snow and ice removal from entry steps, landings, and walkways to buildings.

- Sets up and takes down cafeteria tables, chairs and trash cans.

- Cleans cafeteria eating areas before during and after breakfast and lunch periods (cleans tables, empties trays, cleans floors, etc.). Also sets up and takes down furniture and A/V equipment for special events and assemblies.

- Physically required to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds with frequent movement of objects weighing up to 40 pounds or heavier with help or with moving equipment such as dollies or moving carts.

- Opens and closes schools.

Physical Effort

Occasionally uses heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., industrial type buffers). Occasionally exerts moderately heavy physical effort such as that required in lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, requiring continuous standing, bending, stooping and reaching. Requires working on ladders/scaffold in the performance of some duties.

Working Conditions

Usually works indoors in areas which are adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. Exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritation from strong cleaning solutions. Care must be taken to avoid serious injury when working on ladders and scaffolds or when using heavy powered equipment.

Per OPM Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, the applicant's experience, education and training must show enough knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position. This job has one critical element, called the screen-out element (SOE). Applicants who clearly fail to meet the lowest acceptable requirements in the SOE will be rated ineligible without further review of their application.

- Maintain parking areas, sidewalks, curbs, and pathways by cold patching surfaces, painting lines and symbols, replacing signs and performing weed control.
