As a Senior Legal Administrative Specialist at the GS-0901-12 with a full performance level of GS-12 , you will be part of Retirement Services/Claims 1, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for considering, and acting on all aspects of claims and applications for retirement benefits in an assigned office.

Adjudicate cases of unusual technical difficulty such as cases based on obscure or seldom used retirement laws.

Serve as technical and policy expert, interpreting and correctly applying law, regulation and procedures.

Review and approve recommendations and decisions made by other Specialists, and provide advice and assistance to less-experience Specialists.

Respond orally and in writing to internal/external customers (who may be irate) to include Congressional sources, agency and union officials, retirees, and survivors providing clear, responsive explanations of actions taken and the bases for them.

Expedite resolution of special, unique case problems or actions through interaction with managers and supervisors responsible for the areas in question.

Develop and deliver formal lesson plans and training aids to prepare briefings, workshops, and formal trainings for Specialists.

For the GS 12: You must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service that included performing duties such as: interpreting laws and regulations as applied to specific instances in claims adjudication; adjudicating cases of unusual technical difficulty such as cases involving coordination with other agency programs such as workers compensation or Social Security benefits, disability determinations, and changes in payment amounts; expediting resolution of special, unique case problems or actions; recommending and help developing ADP changes such as corrections, enhancements and working directly with programmers to implement enhancements to the automated systems; and/or experience developing formal lessons plans for training programs and delivering briefings, workshops, and formal training.

Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.

You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
