- Manages Recreation Therapy program for Mental Health Services.

- Utilizes therapeutic modalities in administering patient care.

- Provides recreational therapy services individually and in groups to patients with a wide variety of psychiatric diagnosis.

- Integrates recreation therapy services into a multidisciplinary treatment plan.

- Develops curriculum for Psychiatric Care Courses and teaching the principles of recreation therapy to others.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in therapeutic recreation, art therapy, drama therapy, dance therapy, or music therapy;OR

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in a related field involving therapeutic emphasis or concentration that included at least 36 semester hours in therapeutic courses as described below:

18 semester hours of therapeutic recreation courses; and

18 semester hours that include a combination of abnormal psychology, physiology, human anatomy and development, disabilities and general recreation.

Education must have been obtained from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education

at the time the degree was obtained.

Possession of the basic requirement must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of your complete college transcript(s) with your application. Failure to submit the required documentation will result in an ineligibility rating.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Maintaining a structured activity program for adults with psychiatric disabilities used to meet the physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient.

Assessing patients through the use of standardized assessments, observations, medical records, multidisciplinary treatment team (s), patient's families and input from patients.

Participating in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings used to evaluate/review the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend treatment and corrective action when problems exist.

Providing therapeutic interventions consistent with the patient's ongoing need such as participation, reactions, and progress.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:

This position has a selective placement factor needed in order to qualify. The actual Selective Placement Factor is a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the requirement must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of the current BLS certification with your application.

You do not have to possess the factor in order to be rated eligible; however, applicants possessing the factor can be ranked above those who do not, however will not be rated ineligible based solely on whether or not they possess the QRF.
