About the Position:
The Product Realization Directorate (PRD) is an organization within the Communications-Electronics Research and Development Engineering Center (CERDEC). The PRD mission includes the reduction of design and new product introduction intervals, and solving sustainment problems. PRD members have experience in research, product development, and production environments that are drawn upon to foster cohesion between the efforts of the research & development, acquisition and sustainment communities to benefit the Warfighter.
This position is being filled under the Expedited Hiring Authority for Defense Acquisition Workforce Positions in accordance with 10 USC 1705 (g).
This is a modified term appointment not to exceed five years. The expected duration of initial appointment is up to five years with an additional one-year approved extension. The one-year extension must be approved by an RDE Director. Employees hired under the modified term appointment are in a non-permanent status but may be eligible for conversion to a career-conditional (permanent) appointment. This position may be made permanent without further competition.
This position is covered under an alternative personnel system known as the DoD Science & Technology Demonstration Project. The Demonstration replaces GS grade levels with occupational families and pay bands. This position incorporates former GS grades 5 step 01 to GS 11 step 10 and may be filled at any of those equivalent grades within the pay band.

Serves as a Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist within the Product Realization Directorate who works under the direction of a QA and/or Engineering supervisor.
The Quality Assurance Specialist performs Quality Assessments of a contractor's design, development, and build activities to ensure adequate consideration of producibility throughout the assigned equipment life cycle.
Monitors contractors operations to prevent the production of defects and to verify adherence to quality plans and requirements.
Reviews, investigates, inspects, analyzes and evaluates contractor performance to ensure contractual compliance.
Applies laws, regulations, policies, principles, standards, techniques, and concepts of a program, project, technical or technology field, and demonstrates analytical abilities and skills.
25% or less - You will be expected to travel for this position up to 20% of the time.

This Defense Acquisition Workforce Act (DAWIA) position requires a Level II certification in Acquisition Career Field H (Manufacturing and Production/Quality Assurance) that must be met within 24 months of being placed in this position.
Requires a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
Two year trial/probationary period may be required for new employees entering into the Personnel Demonstration Project.
This position requires travel up to 20% of time away from the duty station.

For this position you can qualify by meeting the education requirements or general experience. To qualify with experience, you are required to have completed three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. General experience is described as experience in fields such as quality control, quality inspection, contracting and purchasing, supply and storage, industrial or production planning, research and engineering, maintenance, and test and evaluation that provided (1) familiarity with quality assurance or related work, (2) pertinent product or process knowledge and skill, (3) ability to interpret and apply contract requirements and engineering specifications, and (4) skill in dealing with others in person-to-person work relationships. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower band (DE-01) or grade level (GS-04) position in the federal service.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
To qualify based on education you must possess at least an undergraduate degree with a major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields related to the position.
Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for this grade level. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 36. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education by 120. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
