Summary

The selectee for this position will serve as a PORTABLE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR in the Maintenance Department of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC. The incumbent operates various pneumatic tools to break up or drill hard surfaces, such as concrete, asphalt and masonry. The incumbent serving in this position may at anytime be assigned to any site or workstation within a 50 mile radius as a condition of employment.

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

Operate an air compressor vibrator attachment to remove air pockets from freshly poured concrete.

Utilize instructions, specifications, etc. to ensure proper size/depth of holes drilled in concrete and masonry.

Follow safety procedures to perform maintenance or upkeep duties without accident or injury.

-Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

-Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

-Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license within 30 days of employment.

-Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.

-The incumbent is designated as a member of the Facility Spill Response Team and will be required to respond to oil spill emergencies.

Incumbent will be trained to operate spill response equipment and on containment and defensive oil and hazardous substance response strategies.

-The incumbent's work requires continual movement of hand and arm, standing, reaching and bending as well as lifting materials up to 100lbs.

-Most of the incumbent's work is performed outdoors in all types of weather extremes. Pneumatic tool operators are exposed to heavy dust and flying chips as well as cuts, bruises and falls.

-The incumbent is designated as a critical service employee and is required to work regardless of emergency conditions or closure of the Naval Base.

In addition the incumbent is a Snow Team member and is required to respond to snow emergencies declared by the Director of Transportation or normal plowing operations initiated by the immediate supervisor.

The incumbent is also required to respond to any other emergencies such as sewer backups, water main breaks, electric outages, etc.

-Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position.

Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision: 1) operating a variety of equipment such as bobcats, trenchers, concrete saws, jackhammers, and compressors to break up or drill hard surfaces such as concrete, asphalt and masonry; 2) performing minor corrective maintenance on air compressors, jack hammers, etc.; 3) ensuring work areas meet safety standards and/or codes; and 4) working from verbal and/or written instructions, specifications, etc.
