This job opportunity is for a Supervisory Statistical Assistant in the Quality Assurance Processing Section, Statistical Methods and Quality Assurance Branch (SMQAB), National Processing Center (NPC), U.S. Bureau of the Census located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This position serves as supervisor for the quality assurance of printed materials, packaged materials, materials produced by outside contractors, kits, and other inspections associated with the mailout of surveys and censuses. This position is not included in the bargaining unit.

Tour of Duty: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Alternate Work Schedule (AWS). Alternate work schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off.

A one-year trial period will be required.

This is a supervisory position. You must have demonstrated in your work experience or training that you possess or have the potential to develop the qualities of successful supervision. You may be required to serve a supervisory/managerial probationary period.

Candidates must clear the fingerprint process and initiate the required background investigation prior to selection.

The individual selected for this position will:

Serve as supervisor for the Plans and Reports Unit and oversee the off-site contractor printing operations.

Train, plan, direct, review and coordinate the work for the staff performing quality assurance inspections and related duties for off-site print contractor operations.

Recommend promotions, reassignments, layoffs, step increases, awards, adverse actions, evaluate suggestions, and approve leave as appropriate to ensure coverage based on workload

Coordinate the work of statistical assistants engaged in the selection and inspection of the quality assurance samples, inspection of receipt of materials, construction, printing, binding/stitching, address labeling, package assembly verification, carton label monitoring, pallet inspections and transport loading inspections.

Adjust staff according to fluctuating workloads.

Develop and implement clerical procedures and establish operating guidelines according to specifications and feasibility.

Ensure that the quality and quantity of products conform to acceptable standards.

Provide higher level management with current information regarding pre-census, census, and survey operations

Foster an environment of open communication in the workforce through advocating teamwork, innovation, prevention, and customer satisfaction.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You qualify at the Grade 07 level if you possess one year of specialized experience that equips you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the grade 06 level to meet the qualification requirements in the Federal Service. Examples include experience that demonstrates the knowledge of statistical procedures; preparing preliminary drafts of procedures, forms and instructions for collecting, editing, and compiling data for receipts of materials, printing inspection; assisting statisticians and managers with a wide variety of statistical assignments related to quality assurance procedures in print or package assembly operations.

Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations, (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
