The Jack C. Responsibilities

Salary: Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Compensation Panel in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

Recruitment/Relocation incentive may be authorized for highly qualified candidate.

You may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Please contact Human Resources at this medical center and speak with the EDRP Coordinator for additional information.

Candidates for this position must be Board Certified in Physiatry or have an unrestricted medical license (MD/DO) and DEA registrations and 1) have pain residency training, 2) have specific chronic pain training/certification, or 3) have at least 3 years experience in a pain clinic and be willing to complete local training and competencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Physician shall provide service to include, but not be limited to:

Diagnosing, treating and managing patients with adult primary care problems according to standard, usual and acceptable or customary methods and techniques

Performing detailed history and physical of persons to include pain assessments with a multidisciplinary team

Participates in determining activity and participation capabilities and limitations of patients seen on team

Participates in the interdisciplinary team meetings and works collaboratively with the other team members

Orders and/or performs appropriate diagnostic procedures within the scope of their privileges and/or consultations needed to supplement the clinical assessments

Contributes to patient care, especially in their areas of special competence

Evaluates current medical and pharmacological therapies and makes recommendations to the team as medically indicated

Interacts with other rehabilitation health care providers in such a way that respects their professionalism and achieves maximal benefit to the patient

Will be available and responsive whenever assistance is needed

Performs administrative duties, such as the timely completion of medical records and participation in quality and outcomes management

Attends continuing education opportunities to whatever extent needed to improve their specialty and rehabilitation competencies

Provides input and direction into all policies, procedures and protocols pertaining to the pain clinic which identify the functions and responsibilities of the physicians providing treatment

Develops ongoing relationships with internal and external stake holders

Participates in education activities with program personnel

Maintains compliance with JCAHO and CARF standards as appropriate as well as state and federal regulations and performance measures

The physician may have additional duties as collaborative support for a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.
