The New York Fed Cash Function is seeking a Senior Operations Manager with demonstrated experience in operations, process improvement, project management, and risk management and compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to lead a critical multi-shift operation with direct/indirect reports of up to about 65 people. You will gain invaluable experience working in a fast paced environment and across the System on important initiatives.
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York Cash Function has a long history of innovation and leadership as a high volume processor of U.S. Banknotes. The facility utilizes state-of-the-art automation to support operations and controls. The Cash Function pays out and receives deposits of currency from depository institutions (DIs), central banks and other governmental counterparties. Incoming deposits are processed to cull out unfit and suspected counterfeit notes and remaining currency is repackaged for recirculation back to the depository institutions.
This position is located in East Rutherford, New Jersey and some limited travel (both domestic and international) is required.
Manage the daily cash operation including payments, receipts and processing of high value cash shipments from both domestic and international depository institutions. Assure high performance, high productivity, efficiency and strong governance. Continually seek ways to improve business processes. Oversee the daily proof process. Uses automation efficiently and extensively for materials handling, accounting, controls and audit trails.
Project Management and Process Improvement:
Work with line managers to assure strong project management discipline. Engage in broader efforts related to the Federal Reserve System and business process excellence, which may include six sigma, lean, or other approaches well suited to the environment. Engage in special projects as needed.
Risk Management and Compliance:
In a heavily regulated business environment, maintain strong controls and seek improvements to the control environment. Oversee all aspects of risk management, including operational and compliance risk.
Proactively manage the cash operation and provide support and coaching to staff members and direct reports. Treats all staff members fairly and with respect. Manages all levels of performers by setting clear and consistent performance expectations and providing clear and actionable feedback. Demonstrate a clear commitment to diversity of thought, people and perspective.
Federal Reserve System Leadership:
Participate on Federal Reserve System workgroups to better understand the cash business and promote best practices at other cash offices. Engage in policy development related to cash and retail payments more broadly.
Bachelors in Engineering or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, primarily in an operations environment with some experience managing a multi-shift operation preferred;
Proven operations management skills and ability to meet production parameters, review business controls, and meet cost controls.
Demonstrated leadership skills including the ability to think strategically, lead change, and manage and motivate various levels of staff.
Proven project management skills with a focus on building high performance relationships and processes to drive projects forward.
Strong critical thinking skills combined with ability to synthesize data and analysis.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present analysis in writing and verbally.
Strong influencing skills and ability to work collaboratively, especially when dealing with outside stakeholders.
