Provides technical consultation services in an area of the behavioral sciences by conferring with and advising professional workers regarding the less difficult problems in the field of mental health.
Positions allocable to this class typically receive administrative and technical direction from a higher level professional clinical supervisor or a higher level administrative manager and are characterized by their responsibility for providing advice and consultation to professional staff members and agencies concerning less difficult problems of mental health and behavioral health issues. Incumbents in this position are excluded from positions that perform direct client/patient care. Positions require incumbents to exercise and apply knowledge of the principles and theories of behavioral science or a related discipline.
SPECIAL SALARY INFORMATION
: Per Session
A session is considered to be up to four (4) hours each day worked.
Essential Job Functions
Consults with and advises physician, nurses, social workers and other professional staff members and agencies concerning the less difficult problems in the field of mental health which require the application of the knowledge and principles of a behavioral science, such as psychology or sociology.
Assists in providing consultation services for the more difficult mental health problems under a higher level professional.
Provides individual and group clinical supervision to psychology doctoral candidates.
Conducts staff conferences and other group meetings to discuss problem areas and provide general information concerning the mental health field.
Conducts program evaluation and needs assessment for an outpatient mental health center.
Provides training and consultation to professional staff in evidence based practices.
Conducts psychological assessment.
Speaks before community and other groups concerning behavioral problems and mental health problems.
A Master's Degree* from an accredited college or university with specialization in an academic discipline in or related to the behavioral sciences** - AND - One year's post Master's degree experience in consulting, clinical, or research experience in the specialized field of a community or public agency.***
2- Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Doctorate's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an academic discipline in or related to the behavioral sciences.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Degree(s) must indicate the specialized field in order to be evaluated. Candidates whose educational degree(s) do not show the specialty must provide a legible copy of the official transcripts or a written statement from their Registrar's office indicating the educational specialty on the university's letterhead. A copy of your degree or written statement from Registrar's office must be submitted at the time of filing or within 15 calendar days.
**Qualifying education in the field of the behavioral sciences include the following disciplines: Anthropology, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services.
***Community or public agency is defined as advancing the public good by addressing specific social, health or mental health issues in a non-profit or publicly funded setting in the fields of behavioral science.
Past and present mental health clients and family members are encouraged to apply.
Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights or weekends.
This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based upon application information and supplemental questionnaire, weighted 100%. Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher to be placed on the eligible register.
The eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies in the Department of Mental Health.
Applications will be processed on an as-received
basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
Retake: No person may compete for this examination more than once in a twelve (12) month period.
