Summary

This position is located at the White River Junction Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont. In this position you will be responsible for operating a fully integrated voice and data console with a wide range of communication features utilizing the latest state-of-the-art electronic techniques.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, days or evenings with rotating weekends

Routes calls to their proper destination

Provides organizational information to callers

Answers and places non-routine telephone calls such as international calls

Monitors and tests the Center's emergency and maintenance alarms

Serves as radio dispatcher for emergency incidents

Maintains extension identification, departmental names, functions, locations and general center procedures

Performs additional clerical duties

Serves as back-up for other offices/telephone coverage as necessary

Assists with backlog filing for medical records section

Assists in orientation and skill development of new communication technicians

Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

You must have at least one (1) full year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. General experience specific to this position MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST THREE of the following: working as a receptionist or telephone operator; obtaining the necessary information to direct calls appropriately; communicating effectively using clear enunciation; using a computer to provide clerical support; and working efficiently under pressure of time and stressful conditions. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties performed; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. - OR -

You may substitute the experience above with education if you have successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. NOTE: If you are using education to qualify, transcripts are required. - OR -

Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and general experience may also be qualifying for the GS-4 grade level. Your experience and education must demonstrate your ability to perform the duties of this position. To qualify by a combination, the total qualifying experience will be calculated as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; and the education will be calculated as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. These two percentages will be added, and the total percentages must equal at least 100.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is usually sedentary but may involve some standing and walking to consult directories and manuals. The work is normally performed in a well-lighted, temperature-controlled room. Normal safety precautions are required.
