Manages the respiratory care program at a large full service acute care hospital or major rehabilitation hospital.
Essential Job Functions
Formulates, develops and executes plans, policies and programs for the hospital respiratory care activities.
Coordinates the work of the unit with the hospital administrator and other professional staff in formulating programs, policies and procedures to integrate and coordinate respiratory care services.
Interprets and directs the implementation of respiratory care programs, policies and procedures and assumes the responsibility for ensuring that the programs meet hospital accreditation standards and special needs of the facility.
Prepares the annual budget for respiratory services and maintains control of expenditures.
Manages, through subordinate staff, the work of respiratory care practitioners and supporting staff of respiratory services.
Monitors staff productivity in order to increase effectiveness and efficiency and to reduce administrative cost.
Directs employee orientation, in-service training and affiliating student programs.
Three years' experience performing at the level of *Supervising Respiratory Care Practitioner or higher. A Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy or administration will be accepted for one year of the required experience.
California State Respiratory Care Practitioner's License** issued by the Respiratory Care Board of California.
PHYSICAL CLASS II -
Light: light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Supervising Respiratory Care Practitioner in the County of Los Angeles is defined as: Provides technical and administrative supervision to a group of respiratory care practitioners and ancillary personnel on a shift performing respiratory care.
**A valid California State Respiratory Care Practitioner license is required at the time of filing or within 15 calendar days of filing.
In order to receive credit for the required degree, you must include a legible copy of the official diploma, officialtranscripts, or official letter from the accredited institution which shows the area of specialization with your application at the time of filingor within 15 calendar days of filing.
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based on application information, weighted 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination to be added to the eligible register.
Applications will be processed on an as-received
basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
The eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Health Services as they occur.
