GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Investment Derivative Operations Senior Analyst performs highly complex investment-related financial analysis work. Work involves analyzing and reconciling investment data, preparing reports, and process improvement projects. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. This position reports to an Investment Operations Manager.

Compensation:  The TRS Investment Management Division offers an attractive compensation package consisting of base salary, annual performance incentive bonus, a defined-benefit pension plan as well as 401(k) and 457 retirement plans, and comprehensive benefits.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Trade Support and Reconciliation

Verifies derivative investment trade details and resolves trade settlement issues in a timely manner. Instructs and monitors margin, collateral and cash movements. Researches the causes of and reconciles holding and performance discrepancies on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis in accounting, custody, and investment systems. Acts as liaison between traders, brokers, custody bank, external partners, and internal teams.

Reporting & Analysis

Prepares and monitors detailed investment reports ensuring any exceptions or inconsistencies are identified, researched and corrected. Analyzes trading information, pricing data, cash movements, corporate actions and other issues that affect portfolio valuation, performance, compliance and regulations. Assists with providing and reviewing support for audit requests or accounting reports.

Monitoring

Participates on or leads various investment operations and technology related projects to improve system integration between trading applications, custody bank, brokers, portfolio analytics and other software. Actively researches and identifies areas for improvement around the operations, trading and reporting process. Updates and maintains operational policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or information systems. Preferred Master's degree may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

Experience:

Four (4) years of full-time accounting, investment operations, financial analysis, or related experience requiring compilation, reconciliation, and/or analysis of detailed information. Experience with trade settlement and reporting of securities and derivatives. (Experience may be concurrent.) Experience analyzing, reconciling, and reporting on investment data. (Experience may be concurrent.)

Registration, Certification, or Licensure:

None

Preferred

Qualifications

Master's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a closely related field. Experience with database and report writing technology. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) in good standing. Basic understanding of capital markets, investment securities (equities, bonds, and derivatives), or private markets (real estate or private equity). Basic understanding of investment performance measurement.

Knowledge of:

Investment concepts, terminology, styles, models, strategies, and fundamental investment factors.

Skill in:

Performing complex financial analysis. Verifying and auditing financial data. Using a computer in a Windows environment with MS Office word processing, spreadsheet (including advanced Excel functions and macros), and database systems; report writing; and other business software. Conducting data searches and evaluations of large amounts of information, performing complex statistical analysis of the data, and preparing concise and accurate reports. Communicating complex technical information, verbally and in writing, including presenting analysis. Organizing and coordinating work assignments to effectively meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines, in handling multiple tasks simultaneously, and in managing conflicting priorities and demands.

Ability to:

Complete detailed work with a high degree of accuracy. Provide excellent customer service. Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts.
