Summary

Education and length of practice will be considered by a Compensation Panel in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay Market Pay).

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.

Paid Time Off: 49-54 days paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days' sick leave, 10 federal holidays).

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).

Incentives: Possible signing bonus, relocation assistance, and student loan repayment up to $120K for eligible debt.

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.

Responsibilities

The Medical Director is responsible for providing direction and leadership for the medical management of Veterans and for maintaining standards of care at their respective community based outpatient clinic or division.

The incumbent will participate in the development and administration of policies and in strategic planning for their site.

The incumbent must have knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, systems and objectives. He/she should have some basic understanding of fiscal and human resource management policies and procedures.

The incumbent must have leadership experience with demonstrated ability to effectively lead in a changing environment with knowledge of compliance requirements.

The incumbent should have skill in planning, organizing, prioritizing, delegating and supervising. The incumbent should have skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem identification, problem-solving and decision-making.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

· Citizenship of the United States: Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.

· Education : Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.

· Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

· Residency: Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in a accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.

· English Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.

· Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience:

· Current state license and board certification or board eligibility internal medicine or family medicine.

· Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience after completion of residency.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
