As a 157 bed medical, surgical, and psychiatric facility, the Kansas City VA provides comprehensive health care through primary care and tertiary care in subspecialty medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation. Duties The Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time board certified or board eligible Section Chief Dermatologist. The incumbent will carry an appropriate clinical workload, take part in continuing medical education (as defined by licensure), and will be involved with quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Supervisory: Provide supervisory responsibilities to the Dermatology area. Provide clinical oversight to all staff. Clinical: Provide Dermatological patient care to our veteran patients. This would include prescribing medications, performing minor surgical procedures, biopsies, laboratory requests, and seeing patients in an inpatient and outpatient clinic setting to patients presenting with dermatologic problems. Assist in tele-dermatology along with other providers for the Wichita VA patients. Engage in direct patient contact or performs tasks defined by statute or recognized custom of medical practice within the bounds of state law as defined by the board of professional licensure. Upon providing competency and receiving approval, the incumbent may also perform specialty procedures as delineated in their clinical privileges. Teaching: Provide guidance to rotating Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students on rotation from University of Kansas, School of Medicine. Skills needed would be to lead, give direction, provide knowledge, skills and abilities in the Dermatology field and train other professional staff in the dermatology section. Administrative: Completes encounters in a timely manner. Attends hospitals assigned committees, section meetings, and other administrative functions. Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual reports concerning this department, maintaining accurate data on all procedures. Prepares and updates the policy and procedure manual for the department that complies with JCAHO guidelines.
