This VA serves veterans throughout the state of Delaware, southern New Jersey, eastern Maryland and southeastern Pennsylvania. Wilmington offers easy access to I-95 to cultural and recreational opportunities in Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC. Major league sports abound in Philadelphia, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and swimming at Atlantic coast beaches are popular summer activities. Wintertime is ski time in the nearby Pocono Mountains. Wilmington is served by major air routes thru Philadelphia and Baltimore and major rail routes thru Amtrak and metroliner service. Delaware has no sales tax.

The VA Medical Center Wilmington, Delaware is recruiting for a full-time Physician (Cardiologist/Non-Interventional),VM-0602. This position is located in Medicine Care Line, Wilmington VA Medical Center (WVAMC), Wilmington, Delaware. This position is responsible for providing a broad range of Cardiology services to Veterans receiving care at the VA Medical Center. Duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the Medical Center. The Physician follows established guidelines, ethics, and policies and protocols of the Cardiology Service, Wilmington, Delaware VAMC, Department of VHA, and the profession. The Cardiologist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff.

Responsibilities

The Physician (Cardiologist) will work under the general supervision of the Chief, Medicine Service.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNED DUTIES:

The non-invasive cardiologist performs a wide range of duties (commensurate with experience and qualifications) for inpatients and outpatients at Wilmington VA Medical Center. These include:

· Perform general cardiology clinical care, including in-patient consultation, out-patient consultation and out- patient clinic; interest in CHF and the management of CHF patients is highly preferred.

· Expanded use of clinical video telehealth (CVT)/electronic consultation (e-Consult) to improve access to cardiology care as well as increased use of Specialty Care Access Network-Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (SCAN-ECHO) to foster education and improve care.

Perform echocardiography, exercise and pharmacologic stress testing, Holter monitor an electrocardiogram interpretation, diagnosis and management of arrhythmias.

Takes an active role in the evaluation of the patient, decision for treatment/care, and documentation in the patient electronic records.

Serves on service level and/or hospital committees as needed and participate in the facility peer review program.

Maintains professional competency, courtesy and flexibility or provide the necessary services of this specialty.

Possess strong clinical, leadership, and communication skills with a commitment to academics. Active participation in clinical and didactic training of fellows, residents and medical students is mandatory.

Maintains a record of successful practice management and excellent clinical skills.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.; However, subject to change, depending on the needs of the Service/Medical Center. On-call is required.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible Preferred.
