Summary

This position is an AST, Data Systems located in Communication Services with in the Office of the Chief Information Officer at Marshall Space Flight Center. This position involves analyzing requirements, planning and conducting research design and development of advanced data communications systems and digital computation systems.

Responsibilities

Responsible for analyzing requirements, planning and conducting research design and development of advanced data communications systems and digital computation systems.

Develops and conducts advanced network simulation models to analyze network capacity and loading characteristics, and applies results to network design.

Plans and develops data, voice, and/or video communications networks and services capable of providing integrated resource functions using advanced technologies, techniques, architectures, and design concepts.

Establishes engineering requirements for implementation and integration tests and checkouts leading to operational status of new systems and data communication services.

Responsible for providing support in all aspects of service management, to include defining business processes, approving contractor service delivery and operations processes, approving engineering designs, and developing service management requirements.

Defines contract performance measures for their assigned service line and ensuring contractor performance meets subjective and objective performance commitments.

Qualifications

In addition to Basic Education Requirement, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. Example of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, experience with network communications infrastructure systems, protocols and applications required. This includes Domain Name Systems (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), routing protocols, Internet peering, wired and wireless networking, voice over IP, streaming video, data center networking, cloud services and connectivity, and network performance analysis and tuning.

Education

Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Architecture, Astronautical Engineering, Astronautics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Ceramics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science*, Earth and Planetary Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics (Pure or Applied), Applied Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgy, Meteorology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Physics, Oceanography, Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Space Science, Structural Engineering, Welding Engineering or other appropriate physical science or engineering field. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position. *Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
