Current employees of the Chillicothe, Ohio VA Medical Center (and it's associated Community-Based Outpatient Clinic) who have been in their position as a permanent employee for at least 90 days will receive first consideration.

This position can filled by either a Physician's Assistant $75,665-$116,968 or Nurse Practitioner $94,368 - $125,509

Responsibilities

The Physician Extender will provide general clinical services to the Veterans in the Mental Health Care Line.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Admitting history and physical, admission note and preliminary plan, medication reconciliation, appropriate medication management for acute and chronic illnesses, all orders (nursing, diet, medications, etc), perform sick call, order appropriate labs and imaging and specialty consults, discharge summaries and attend daily treatment team.

Work Schedule: 23 hour shifts, 7 on 7 off.

Physical Requirements: The work may require extreme patience in controlling one's emotions. The work may require using appropriate technique to physically restrain clients who present a danger to self or others. The work may also require assisting physically disabled clients and may include lifting them.

Work Environment: Work is typically performed in a clinical setting that involves everyday risks or discomforts which require safety precautions typical of hospitals, offices and meeting rooms. Some work is performed in a setting away from the office where the environment cannot be controlled. There may be occasional risk of physical harm that may require special precautions and training.

Mental/Emotional Requirements: The incumbent of this position will be expected to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information; understand, remember, and communicate routine, factual information; understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions; understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and to negotiate and integrate different view points; organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology; organize and prioritize own work schedule on short-term basis (longer than one month); count accurately; add, subtract, multiply, divide and to record, balance and check results for accuracy; compute, analyze, and interpret numerical data for reporting purposes; compute, analyze and interpret complex statistical data and/or to develop forecasts and computer models; understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines.

Qualifications

Citizenship - United States citizen.

English Language Proficiency - Proficient in spoken and written English.

Certification - Possess a current, full, active and unrestricted nursing license or certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. (This requirement does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of that date).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Possess a MSN degree from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on College Nursing Education (CCNE) or hold a bachelor's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or graduated from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or graduated from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

GRADE: To be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB) commensurate with experience and education.
