Responsibilities

THE HOURLY RATE IS: $24.07 - $28.08 The primary purpose of this position is to operate, inspect, and maintain water plant equipment and systems. Operates and monitors water system motors, pumps, valves, chlorinators, booster pumps, tanks, etc, through use of a complete computer telemetry operating system.

Ensures the operability of the base water production radio telemetry system to include operation and maintenance of the central processing unit, inspect and repair remote telemetry units and observe and interpret all data compiled.

As assigned, works on a shift basis alone, or with an airman who may require technical guidance in some specific phase of work. Adjusts chlorinators to conform with flow. Changes tanks when empty. Collects water samples and tests water for chlorine residual, ph and fluoride (alkalinity and acidity).

Maintains detailed records during assigned shift to reflect all activities such as periods of operation and amount of water pumped from each well, gauge and chart readings, amount and kinds of compounds used, test result readings, static water level and draw-down versus capacity or pumping rate.

Observes fire, safety and security regulations. Maintains the plan, buildings and grounds in acceptable order by cleaning and painting floors and walls as needed, and cutting grass in adjacent areas.

3. As directed, travels to any off-base location to accomplish any work within skill capability.

4. Operates light and medium weight trucks incidental to performance of above duties, and as such, must possess a valid driver's license.

5. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty and/or overtime.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Thorough knowledge of non-filtration processes normally associated with pretreated or ground (well) water treatment process to change the taste, odor, or chemical content of the water.

2. Ability to perform water treatment tests to check items such as pH level, turbidity, and fluoride and chloride content.

3. Skill in the use of instruments such as ethylometers and pH meters to take measurements.Skill in adding silicates and chemical agents such as chlorine, fluoride, and manganese into the water system.

4. Knowledgeable of proper procedures for monitoring and maintaining the quality of swimming pool water and chlorinating levels.

5. Knowledge of State and Federal reporting requirements and Federal regulations which cover the addition of water treatment chemicals.

6. Skill in troubleshooting plant operations and performing minor maintenance repairs on plan equipment. Skill in using a computerized water monitoring system.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The certification must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Further, under paragraph (h) of the rule, agencies are required to verify a qualifying separation from military service prior to appointment, through the DD-214 or other appropriate documentation.
