This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Industrial & Manufacturing Materials Center of Excellence and Expertise (IMM-CEE)- affiliated with the Buffalo Field Office. The selection will be made and oversight of this position will be maintained by the Buffalo Field Office, but the physical location of this position will remain in Long Beach, CA and Buffalo, NY.

Responsibilities
Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your technical and administrative expertise to safeguard the U.S. commercial supply chains. This position starts at a salary of $98,747.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $128,373.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $128,373 (GS-13, Step 10).
In this Supervisory Import Specialist position, you will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals responsible for all import requirements. Typical work assignments include:
Serving as a first line supervisor, directing and coordinating administrative work performed by Customs employees responsible for all import requirements relative to an assigned line of merchandise.
Providing technical advice on the admissibility, control, entry, revenue collection and export of merchandise and of the functions and use of the Automated Commercial System (ACS).
Providing guidance and training to subordinate staff regarding imported articles and providing authoritative advice to Import Specialists nationwide on classification, value and other related issues.
Planning and assigning work to subordinates based on priorities and preparing schedules for completion of the work.
Monitoring and evaluating work performance of subordinates; establishing or recommending performance standards and performing a range of supervisory functions.

Travel: You will be required to travel occasionally.
Training: You may be required to attend and successfully complete seven (7) weeks of Import Specialist training at the Field Office Training Academy in Charleston, SC.
Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment and complete a supervisory training course within 12 months of assignment.
Supervisory Training: All newly appointed first-time permanent CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include Supervisory Leadership Training - three weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed.
Qualifications
GS-13:
You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. Examples include serving as a Senior or Lead Import Specialist responsible for ensuring that routine work assignments of an assigned team are carried out in accordance with established guidelines and with administrative and judicial precedent; and planning, conducting, and controlling the review, analysis, and processing of formal entries pertaining to assigned lines of merchandise and established priorities for different types of entries.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must:
* Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
* Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 08/22/2018.
