The Program Support Assistant provides administrative assistance to the Primary Provider Team Managers for the Primary Care Division. Program Support Assistant has the responsibility to perform administrative functions including daily, monthly, and quarterly activities that are part of the overall operation of the Primary Provider Team office.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Provides administrative support for the team and serves as the primary back up for the Program Clerk assigned to the Primary Provider Team Geriatrics.

Prepares, coordinates, and revises Nurses Schedules for the Primary Provider Team Managers.

Assists in departmental problem solving. Investigates and plans alternative solutions.

Schedules appointments, conferences and maintains the calendar for the team.

Serves a Timekeeper for the Primary Provider Team and alternate timekeeper for the Clinical Support Team in the Primary Care Division as needed.

Prepares educational leave requests and arranges air travel and lodging accommodations.

Prepares OWCP (Office of Workers Compensation) forms for on-the-job injuries.

Participates in preliminary preparation for committee and staff meetings.

Prepares requests for supplies and maintains records of supplies ordered.

Assists is conducting equipment inventories.

Screens telephone calls and visitors.

Performs other duties as assigned.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-4, level in Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: Possessing the ability to type 40 words per minute. Providing administrative support to a team, including preparing work schedules, timekeeping, arranging travel accommodations, preparing for staff meetings and ordering supplies. Using various Microsoft Office programs, database programs and office equipment. Demonstrating proper use of grammar, punctuation, spelling and clerical procedures. Assisting in departmental problem solving and planning alternative solutions.


Education: Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)


Combination: Equivalent combinations of creditable specialized experience and education as described above. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the ability to type 40 WPM.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
