This position is located in the Division of Fish and Wildlife Conservation (WO-230) in Washington, DC.

Travel and relocation expenses will be paid consistent with the Federal Travel Regulations and Departmental policy. The use of a relocation service company and home marketing incentive will not be offered.

Physical Demands: There is moderate physical demand and occasional stress associated with meeting tight deadlines and conflict resolutions. Work-related activity while in travel status will involve confinement in sedans or pickups for periods of 6 to 8 hours on rare occasions. It will also involve vehicular travel over rough terrain for periods of up to 4 hours. Travel will require adjustment from sea level to 15,000 feet in elevation and over distances that require time adjustments of 5 hours. Fieldwork and assistance, when required will involve walking and wading in streams and sometimes over rough terrain.

Work Environment: Work is usually performed in an office environment. Occasional fieldwork may include project site visits of less than eight-hour duration.
Responsibilities
This position is located in Division of Fish and Wildlife Conservation in the Washington Office where the incumbent serves as a Fishery Biologist. This position is responsible for managing, coordinating, evaluating, and delivering an integrated national comprehensive fisheries program. Major duties include but are not limited to:

Provides information, analyses, and advice on fish and other aquatic resources management to make decisions and recommendations to meet the goals and objectives of the BLM for these resources.

Coordinates and directs the development of fish and other aquatic resources related strategies and guidance in response to the new and changing conditions, policies, and laws.

Provides Bureau wide coordination and policy development and guidance for the group and the Directorate. This position addresses issues of policy, guidance, and internal and external resources coordination for resources/programs found within the group such as: Forestry, Wildlife, Range, Minerals, Hazmat, Cultural, Wilderness, Recreation, Fisheries, Riparian, Realty Use, Law Enforcement, Wild Horse, and Burro, Fire and Aviation, and Engineering, with emphasis in the BLM Fish and other Aquatic Resources Program.

Works with Tribal Governments and the Bureau of Indian Affairs on all natural resources issues. This requires both internal and external coordination at all levels of the involved.

Qualifications
Basic Education Requirements:
Degree:
A Bachelor's degree in biological science that included 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects like limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related fishery biology courses; and 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in subjects like general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields; or

A combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in biological sciences (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with a minimum of 6 semester) hours in aquatic subjects & 12 semester hours in the animal sciences, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience Requirements
: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the basic education and specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume.

For the GS-14:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. Examples of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level include: Examples of specialized experience include: Experience in fishery resource work involving endangered species restoration; Experience in aquatic and riparian programs; Experience conducting studies involving fish conservation, preservation, and propagation, consideration of construction, contaminants, environmental and recreation; and experience developing plans to provide improved habitat, new food sources, etc.

Substitution of Education
: There is no substitution for education at the GS-14 grade level.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5CFR 300.64.
