The Coatesville VA Medical Center has a staff of twenty one (21) Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners covering the following areas: Primary Care, Outpatient Clinics, Nursing Home Inpatient Units, Mental Health Inpatient Units, Residential Rehabilitation Units (including Substance Abuse and PTSD), Urgent Care and Employee Health.
The incumbent for this position provides inpatient medical care for patients admitted to the acute psychiatry unit and Residential Rehabilitation Treatment units. The ideal candidate will have a strong hospitalist background and familiarity and/or experience working with mental health comorbidities. PA practice is in collaboration with an attending internist but a high degree of autonomy is allowed. NP practice is as an independent provider.The provider is authorized to perform the following: initial and interim histories and physical examinations, progress notes and discharge summaries, order and interpret diagnostic studies, initiate and/or expedite requests for consultations, special tests, or studies, develop and initiate a plan of care, order medications, and document all care utilizing an Electronic Medical Record. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will work in collaboration with nursing, Social Work, mental health providers, and other members of the patient care team to address comprehensive psychosocial and other health needs of our veterans. Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Veterans are highly encouraged to apply.
Work Schedule: Full-Time. Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. (Compressed tour (10 hour days) may be considered)

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Possess a current, full, active and unrestricted nursing license or certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. (This requirement does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of that date).
Preferred Experience: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner must have at least one (1) year full time experience in Emergency Medicine.
Grade Determinations: To be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB) commensurate with experience and education.

Possess a MSN degree from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on College Nursing Education (CCNE) or hold a bachelor's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or graduated from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or graduated from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years
