Government Attorney Jobs description

Government attorney jobs are an excellent way for new law graduates to enter the legal profession. These jobs do not fall under the preview of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and thus the various courts and federal agencies all over the country can directly hire lawyers without going through the civil service route. The candidates have to be from an ABA approved law school and have good grades. With the current recession even hitting the legal profession, there is stiff competition even for government attorney jobs.

A good school and good grades are the minimum requirements. Besides that, the candidates also have to show extracurricular activities that they undertook in the legal field. The advantage of government attorney jobs is that these jobs provide stable income and a predictable career path which appeals to many people. But the main advantage that is becoming apparent now is that this is work that cannot be outsourced compared to legal work that is being outsourced by Biglaw firms. Also, government attorneys get to practice law in the courtroom and do not have to spend their initial years doing doc review which happens in Biglaw firms.
