Safety engineering is a field related to system engineering. The safety engineering field assures that the behavior of life critical systems is as per our expectation and this should follow even when the pieces fail. The focus of this field is on the safety of the product and the processes that are used to make the product. Safety engineers are required to calculate and develop procedures to minimize risk. Basically they try to rule out unsafe methods and conditions in mines, industries, and construction sites as well as in transportation systems.

Safety engineers make an early design of the system and analyze it to find what all faults can occur in the system and according to the observation, propose safety measures. Then these proposed measures are applied to the existing system to make them safer. Safety engineers have to spent lot of time on the site inspecting the safety conditions. They also have office work to do which includes analyzing and interpreting data and preparing reports based on that data.
