A public affairs job includes effective interaction with community and civic leaders to implement community engagement programs. A public affairs professional develops positive messaging and works directly with outside consultants for the development and distribution of various communication tools, including press release, media kits, information sheets, advertisements, and others. A public affairs professional works under the general direction of the manager, environmental and public policy, and works effectively with individuals at the operating company business unit and corporate level. Major responsibilities include effective interaction with community and civic leaders to implement community engagement programs. A public affairs professional also developments and implementation of site-specific communication programs to build and maintains stakeholder relationships, communicates accurate and timely information to key audiences and provides proactive support in the communities where our employees live and work.
A public affairs professional requires a bachelor's degree preferably in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of strategic communication and media experience is preferred. A public affairs professional should have demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects at the same time and ability to react to rapidly changing priorities and deadlines; must be able to work effectively in a culturally diverse community. A public affairs professional must have ability to communicate technical and scientific information to the public, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on teams.
