• Support activities for finalizing a contract
• Manage workloads utilizing a variety of acquisition management information systems including automated procurement data systems

Usually a person in a contract specialist job has to report to an area-specific business manager, and he or she has to lead business teams to develop and execute complete procurement processes for contracts related to major capital projects, and then observe contract compliance. A person in a contract specialist job reviews contract documents and contractual correspondence including subcontracts and identifies risk and opportunity areas as work proceeds. Regular duties in a contract specialist job include monitoring commercial issues and drafting correspondence and notices, as also promoting the maintenance of records for use in substantiating future claims.

A person in a contract specialist job contributes to company success and creates shareholder value by establishing and managing contract and supply arrangements for key equipment, supplies, and services. A person in a contract specialist job needs to constantly evaluate and monitor contract performance to determine the necessity for amendments or extensions of contracts, and compliance to contractual obligations. He or she also plays a major role in approving or rejecting requests for deviations from contract specifications and delivery schedules. Sometimes, the person in a contract specialist job also arbitrates claims or complaints occurring in performance of contracts.

A person in a contract specialist job is primarily responsible for drafting tender documents and resolving contract related issues of all projects, for all tender related work, including documentation of all current and completed project documents. He or she also has to prepare comparison of various contractors and help the tender committee to award the contract.
